The state patrol says first crash on I-80 took place about 10 AM when a westbound vehicle crossed the median and hit a vehicle that had been heading east.
Four people in the westbound vehicle were killed.
A short time later, a truck driver was killed when his semi slammed into the traffic that was stopped by the first accident.
Troopers say it’s possible the truck driver was texting, as he didn’t slow down before that second collision which involved two other semis and a pickup.
The semi driver who died is identified as 33-year-old Abdiaziz Jama, of Columbus, Ohio.
A passenger in his truck was hurt.
