Ground was broken this morning on a new Boys and Girls Club that will be located inside Bryan Middle School. Omaha Public School Board member Lacy Merica says this is a huge benefit for students in the surrounding area.
Merica says, “This is a great opportunity for our students to have somewhere to go safe after school to participate in mentoring. Do leadership development. Get that support they need to become successful.”
Boys and Girls Club CEO Ivan Gilreath says this new facility will serve about 300 children daily. He says this model will allow them to eliminate transportation to a club. They will be able to walk from school, get a hot meal, a safe environment and get help with their homework.
Gilreath says, “We are going to get a new gym. When it is all done this will be a 28-thousand square foot club. It is something greatly needed in this community.”
The new Boys and Girls Club will open on the first day of school in 2019.
