A Florida man is on a cross country run to raise money and awareness to combat child abuse. Christian Griffith started in New York in March and arrived in Omaha Monday. Griffith says he was sexually abused as a teenager and is encouraging other victims to not live in silence like he did for more than 30 years.
Griffith says, “Treatment has saved my life and I want other people to have that opportunity. There is an army of us out there that have been abused and we don’t talk about it much so I’m out here talking about it and I’m talking about it loudly.”
Griffith says he was about 14 when the abuse started, first with his mother and then with several men.
Griffith runs about 30 miles a day, five days a week. He hopes to reach San Francisco by August and raise $1 million. That money will be donated to prevent and raise awareness about child abuse.
