Someone is dumping debris on BNSF Railroad tracks in Bellevue. Spokesperson Andy Williams says, “Over the past couple of weeks there has been a couple of incidents of people stacking items on the railroad tracks near Heroes Park in Bellevue. We have an investigation going on. We are offering a $2,500 reward for the arrests and conviction of parties involved.
BFSF is working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and local law enforcement to catch those involved. Williams says some of the items placed on the tracks have been large chunks of concrete and logs that turn into flying projectiles when hit by a large locomotive.
It is against the law to trespass on railroad property. The suspects are also putting themselves and the public at risk. These rails are also used for passenger trains and hitting that debris could have deadly consequences.
Williams says, “There was one incident, back on the 14th I believe, at 3 o’clock in the morning near the park where there were some large items stacked on the tracks at a crossing, at a private crossing. Fortunately a freight train came through and hit those items and knocked them out of the way. The train scheduled next was a passenger rail train so it could have been a dangerous situation for those on that passenger train.”
