An Omaha family is in mourning in wake of the death of a teen-ager who drowned in a near-by Iowa lake.
Authorities have identified the victim as 16-year-old Edgar Gregorio Loarca Garcia who died on Memorial Day.
Witnesses say Garcia slipped off an inner tube and into Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs, Iowa during an outing with his family.
Garcia was a sophomore at Central High School in Omaha. Family members say Garcia had planned to finish school and return to his home country of Guatemala for work.
School officials say the family is drawing on their strong Catholic faith to cope. The family attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Rescue workers found Garcia’s body in three-to-five-foot-deep waters near the shore. An autopsy will be performed.
