Omaha police are investigating a deadly hit and run which left a Creighton University student dead.
Police are searching for a vehicle which ran over and killed 20-year-old Vindhya Puttagunta of Folsom, California who had laid down in the middle of an Omaha street in the early hours of this morning. Omaha police report Puttagunta died shortly after being rushed to a hospital.
Officers were called to 27th Avenue and Burt Street shortly after one o’clock Wednesday morning.
According to the police report, Puttagunta had been walking with a man near the intersection. The man sat down on a retaining wall. Police say that Puttagunta then tried to get his attention by lying down in the middle of the street. A car traveling east on Burt Street ran over her.
Puttagunta was taken to a hospital with CPR in progress and she later died.
Puttagunta was a student at Creighton’s College of Nursing.
The search continues for a dark colored, newer model four-door sedan.
A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. tonight at St. John’s Church on the Creighton University Campus.
