Nebraska senior and utility player Scott Schreiber was selected in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday by the Houston Astros.
Schreiber was the 282nd pick overall and the first Husker off the board in the 2018 draft. Schreiber finished his senior year batting .369 and finishing second the Big Ten with 18 home runs.
He led the conference with 62 runs scored and tied for first with 79 hits.
Schreiber joins fellow former Husker Jake Meyers in the Astros system. Meyers was taken by Houston in the 13th round last year.
Schreiber was selected in the 26th round by Tampa Bay last year, but elected to return for his senior year. He’s currently a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
Rounds 11-40 of the draft are Wednesday.
