There will soon be a major construction project underway in Omaha’s Old Market. Hawkeye Hotels of Iowa is building a new hotel called the Moxy at 12th and Harney Street. Chief Development Officer Raj Patel says it is an honor to be selected to build in this historic district.
Patel says, “It is rare that you ever get a chance to develop in an area like the Old Market so we take that very seriously and are prideful of that and very much look forward to starting our project later this summer.”
Patel says the original design of the hotel called for eight stories. They worked with city planners and historic preservation committees and learned that six stories will be a better fit for the area. They also took a good look at the neighboring buildings in coming up with the design and decided to preserve the historic legacy of the area the exterior façade will be brick.
The 105 room hotel will be designed to encourage social interactions among guests. It will have a modern, luxury feel at an affordable price to cater to the design trends of millennial and business travelers. Patel says the location will allow guests easy access to one of Omaha’s most bustling hubs for shopping, dining, art galleries, clubs and live music.
The official ground breaking will be set for August.
