The Goodyear Blimp flew over the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium Sunday morning on its way to the College World Series. There was a Birds in Flight show at 11 a.m. and Cayenne, a green winged macaw became startled and flew off. Zoo spokesperson Mandi Krebs says they put out a bulletin for the public to be on the lookout for their star performer and they found her this morning.
Krebs says, “There was unusual activity from a squirrel. He seemed really agitated so we saw the squirrel was really yelling at something and started to investigate a little bit further. Cayenne flew out of that tree and was starting to head south again to another spot. We mobilized our team and followed her and found her and found her in another tree. We got a little bit closer and called her back down and we located her this morning about 8:30.”
Krebs says Cayenne flew back to her trainer and seemed very glad to see a familiar face. After missing for 22 hours the bird was not injured and is back home sound and safe at the zoo. Krebs says tips from the public helped zoo officials locate the missing macaw.
