Flood warnings are in effect for a number of counties in eastern Nebraska. National Weather Service Meteorologist Brian Barjenbruch says along with major rivers like the Missouri and the Elkhorn, flooding is occurring elsewhere.
Barjenbruch says, “We have flooding creeks in several locations across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa and the Missouri is coming up. We’ve encountered a number of flooded roads out surveying some of these points.”
Atchison, Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, Nemaha, Otoe, Richardson and Washington Counties are in the flood warning area. Officials estimate that the Missouri River in the Omaha metro area will rise another two feet in the next couple of days.
Barjenbruch reminds drivers to avoid water covered roads as the depth may be too great to allow your vehicle to pass safely.
