A motorcyclist has been killed after he crashed his bike while fleeing from a state trooper over the weekend.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports 40-year-old Jeremiah Cummings of Lincoln was clocked riding at 110 miles per hour late Saturday evening on Interstate 80 in Lincoln. The trooper attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the rider fled.
NSP says the motorcyclist left I-80 at the Waverly exit and continued east on Highway 6 through Waverly, topping 80 miles an hour, finally reaching 120 miles an hour as he drove through Waverly into rural Cass County.
As the motorcycle neared Greenwood, Cummings lost control of it and crashed.
NSP says the trooper began resuscitation efforts at the scene. Cummings later was pronounced dead.
NSP says the pursuit lasted around seven minutes. NSP has requested an outside agency, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, to investigate the incident.
