Douglas County has a new system to make the early voting process easier. Election Commissioner Brian Kruse says in the past they had to send a postcard out to every registered voter with an early voting request. They will now focus on those who choose the early voting option. They have made a change to the early voting application process. There is now a check box on the application where voters can be put on an early voting request list.
Kruse says, “From that mailing list, each scheduled election, the voter will be sent a green postcard. That postcard will need to be completed and returned resulting in a ballot being mailed to them.”
Kruse says the new process will help his office become more efficient and customer oriented. The new system will also save the county money as well.
The early voting trend continues to rise. In 2004, 14 percent of Douglas County voters cast an early ballot. In 2016, that number was up to 34 percent.
