A young motorcyclist has been killed when he lost control of his bike on an Omaha city street and struck a tree.
The Omaha Police Department identifies the motorcyclist as 24-year-old Augustus Slavik of Omaha.
Police report Slavik was riding west on Leavenworth Street early Thursday afternoon when he hit the curb. The bike left the roadway. Slavik slammed into the tree. The motorcycle skidded on the sidewalk.
Witnesses began resuscitation efforts at the scene until medics from the Omaha Fire Department arrived. Emergency crews rushed Slavik to Nebraska Medicine, but he died shortly after arrival.
Police believe Slavik was speeding.
