A morning fire caused a lot of damage to a business and impacted several others near 84th and Fredrick Street this morning. Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Keith Main says they were called to the Popcorn Shop around 7:15 a.m. and found a fire in a back room of the building.
Omaha Battalion Fire Chief Keith Main says, “It was big storage room area that was pretty involved in fire. There is extensive damage to their shelving, material, popcorn and all of that. The Good Karma Dog Center, there is very minimal smoke in there. We blew that out. There were some animals in there. The Nebraska Game and Parks, they had a drop ceiling and we popped that out and had a little bit of smoke and we blew that out.”
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Omaha Service Center will be closed until further notice. They are evaluating the extent of damage to the office today and it is unclear how long they may be closed. Those needing to buy permits can do so at the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium at 21302 W. Highway 31 near Gretna or on the Game and Parks Commission’s website.
None of the animals at the Good Karma Dog Center were hurt and no one else was injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
