All Nebraskans are urged to turn off the TV, cell phones and computers and spend some time outdoors tonight. This is the 35th annual National Night Out, a chance for neighbors to reconnect and to meet with their local law enforcement.
Roger Cox is with the Bellevue Police Department and says they are excited to take part in the event. He says, “It is a night for law enforcement and the citizens of Bellevue to build those bonds that we already have and continue those great bonds and have a lot of fun. Getting out meeting your neighbors. Have some barbecue. It is a lot of fun for adults and children.”
Cox says about 45 block parties are planned and an officer will make a stop at each to chat with residents. There is also a big block party planned at a city park with food, kids events, bounce houses, face painting and more. They will also have police equipment and vehicles on hand so the public can see what is used to keep them safe.
Cox says this is also a great opportunity for people to reconnect with their neighbors. They can talk about safety concerns and talk in person to those that serve and protect.
About 15,000 communities nationwide are taking part in National Night Out.
