The bold theft of a beagle puppy has the Nebraska Humane Society and others up in arms. Spokesperson Pam Wiese says the incident happened Friday in midtown Omaha.
Wiese says, “Animal control was assisting Douglas County constable’s in serving an eviction notice. Because you can’t leave pets in a home unattended, we were there to get the pets. Animal control put a little beagle in the back of the truck and went back in the house to get another animal when a person drove up, snatched the animal and drove away.”
Luckily, someone nearby was able to capture the theft of the puppy on video. The suspect was seen driving a green or grey Ford Explorer or Expedition.
Weise says, “This is a first for us. We have never had an animal stolen from an animal control truck before. It is a pretty lousy thing to do to take the dog of someone being evicted. It is certainly a bad day for them and the animal control officer was furious and upset. This is not what we expected to happen at all.”
The Nebraska Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect and the return of the puppy to its owner.
