Junior Sinclaire Miramontez collected Big Ten Defensive Player-of-the-Week accolades from the conference on Tuesday after helping Nebraska to a pair of shutout wins against Pac-12 opponents over the weekend.
Miramontez, a Lenexa, Kan., native, played 172 of a possible 180 minutes, as Nebraska routed Oregon (2-0) on Friday and Oregon State (3-0) on Sunday at Hibner Stadium. The Ducks, who were receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll, were unbeaten before NU’s triumph against them. On Sunday, NU’s defense held the Beavers without a shot on goal, as Nebraska improved to 3-0-1 this season.
Miramontez scored in the 30th minute against Oregon State for her second career goal. Brenna Ochoa passed her free kick to Miramontez, who then fired a shot from long range that flew past the Beaver goalkeeper into the back of the net.
Miramontez, who has started all 45 games for the Huskers since 2016, earned second-team All-Region and first-team All-Big Ten recognition last season. In 2016, she garnered Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors in helping Nebraska qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
