Travelers will take to the road this weekend for the long Labor Day weekend or to head to college football games. That means there will be a lot of celebrating and AAA Nebraska spokesperson Rose White says drinking and driving remains a big problem. The Labor Day weekend is one of the deadliest times on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 433 traffic fatalities due to drunk driving in 2016. To reduce those fatalities, AAA is offering their free Tow-To-Go program this holiday weekend.
White says, “Tow-To-Go will run from Friday, August 31st through Tuesday, September 4th at 6 a.m. and it is available by calling 855-2-TOW-2-GO (855-286-9246). it provides a confidential local ride to a safe location within 10 miles while towing your vehicle. The AAA tow truck will take the vehicle and the driver home. It is free and available to AAA members and non-members and is available across Nebraska and Iowa.” The service may not be available in some rural areas or during severe weather conditions.
This is the 20th anniversary of the Tow-To-Go program and in that time they have safely removed more than 25,000 impaired drivers from the roads in the Southeast and the Midwest.
