A former office manager of a Lincoln-based contracting company has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and has been ordered to pay more than $2 million in restitution for stealing from the company.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office reports 32-year-old Mark Martin Ackerman of Crete will have to serve three years of supervised release once he gets out of prison after being convicted on 15 counts of wire fraud.
Federal prosecutors say Ackerman embezzled $1.4 million from Vertical Horizons Contracting, a family-owned corporation where he served as office manager for 10 years. Ackerman has been ordered to forfeit numerous luxury vehicles as well as his home in Crete. Investigators determined Ackerman bought the cars and the house with money he stole from the business. They will be sold to help make restitution.
