The Archdiocese of Omaha fully intends to cooperate with a request from Attorney General Doug Peterson to investigate their records. Deacon Timothy McNeil says this request was expected.
McNeil says, “We are in contact with his office to try to further define the scope of the records he is looking for but we welcome his participation in reviewing our policies and procedures and hour history.”
The files under review are part of a look into how the Archdiocese handled past reports of sexual abuse claims from January of 1978 to present. McNeil says they have an excellent relationship with the county attorney and they help craft protocols for the Archdiocese to report accusations of sexual abuse.
The Omaha Archdiocese authored a Child Protection Program in 2003 that is used in 41 dioceses across the country and by hundreds of schools. They have also established the Manager of Victim Outreach and Prevention Office that can be reached at 402-827-3798.
