Some of Omaha’s finest men and women in blue will be on the rooftops of area Dunkin Donut shops this morning. Police Detective James Shade is taking part on the Cops on the Rooftop project to raise money for Special Olympics Nebraska.
Shade says, “This is our 2nd annual time for participating in Cop on a Rooftop. Special Olympics Nebraska partners with Dunkin Donuts to raise money. Law enforcement officers around the area join in and help participate with the local athletes and try to get more people aware of Special Olympics and donate to the program.”
Shade says an officer on a rooftop is an attention getter and the goal is to get people to stop at the shop to see what is going on. The goal from there is to meet the athletes, raise awareness and hopefully more people will become involved.
Officers will be on the roofs from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Donations go towards the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics.
