Cathy Anderson, at the Nebraska Farm Service Agency, says the Market Facilitation Program is available for producers of corn, sorghum, soybeans, wheat, hogs and dairy.
“To be eligible for payment, a producer does have to have an ownership share in 2018 harvested production,” Anderson says. “Before they can apply for these benefits, they have to know their 2018 harvested production.”
For wheat, pork and dairy producers, those numbers may already be known and they can apply right away. For others, you have until early in 2019 to apply.
Anderson says the program was first announced by U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue.
“The first payment will be issued on 50% of the total 2018 production for that producer times the payment rate that’s been established,” Anderson says. “Each application reflects a producer’s share of production nationwide.”
Applications are available online through January 15th at the website farmers.gov.
