A 35-year-old pregnant woman critically injured in a freak accident on Highway 36 in Douglas County Friday morning has been placed on life-support, so her organs can be donated.
The Omaha World-Herald reports Sara Steiner is on life-support at Creighton University Medical Center-Began Mercy, where she was taken after the Friday morning crash.
The 4 ½ month old baby boy she was carrying died in the accident, according to family members.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a sport utility vehicle struck a deer; the deer went airborne, crashed into windshield of Steiner’s car, went through the car, and out the back window.
The deer struck Steiner in the head.
The accident report says the eastbound SUV hit the deer, which went into the path of Steiner, who was driving west. The driver of the vehicle which hit the deer was not injured.
