Hurricane Florence continues to target the east coast. American Red Cross of Nebraska Chief Executive Officer Jill Orton says volunteers from Nebraska are heading east to lend a helping hand.
Orton says, “We are actually mobilizing right now, putting people and resources in place. Currently, we have deployed across the nation a force of 700 people, both paid and volunteer with 90 percent of them volunteer. Here in Nebraska we have deployed around 11 to help manage transportation, manage logistic supplies and provide leadership out in the shelters.”
Orton says they are organizing shelter supplies for mega-shelters across North Carolina, South Carolina and into Virginia. They are preparing to shelter upwards of 100,000 people.
Hurricane Florence is expected to start impacting the east coast tomorrow night or Thursday morning. There is a threat of tornadoes Thursday with the storm expected to make landfall Friday or Saturday. Upwards of 40 inches of rain is expected in North Carolina alone.
