Hurricane Florence is taking direct aim at east coast. What is being called a life threatening storm surge is expected to impact several states. Ashante Rowzee lives in the Omaha metro area and has been closely monitoring the storm. She came to Nebraska after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005. She says the news coverage of Florence is bringing back bad memories of what happened 13 years ago and has empathy for the victims.
Rowzee says, “I know what they are not only going through but I know what they are going to go through because even though you are going through this disaster it is the aftermath of the aftermath.” She says victims need to be prepared because there will be trying times ahead but they have to keep the faith.
Rowzee spent four days on a rooftop waiting to be rescued during Katrina. She is now very happy to call Nebraska home.
