The unemployment rate in Nebraska dropped slightly as the Omaha metropolitan area enjoyed a four-tenths of a percent drop in its unemployment rate.
The Nebraska Department of Labor reports the state unemployment rate for August fell to 2.8%, down a tenth of a percent from July.
The Omaha metro area unemployment rate last month dropped to 2.7%, down substantially from the 3.1% in July.
Rates in both Lincoln and Grand Island dropped as well.
In Lincoln, the unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percent to 2.6% in August. The Grand Island unemployment rate dropped from 3.1% in July to 2.8% last month.
Those improvements in the percentages mask a slight drop in the number of workers employed in Nebraska last month. The Department of Labor reports 1,032,536 people were in the state workforce in August, down 264 from the July workforce.
Omaha saw a drop of nearly 2,000 workers, with a workforce totaling 507,536 in August compared to July. Lincoln went the opposite direction. The workforce in the Lincoln grew by more than 1,300 this past month; now at 190,925. The Grand Island workforce dropped slightly to stand at 42,471 last month.
