Nebraskans took off this morning on the latest “Flight of Honor” for military veterans to visit the nation’s capital.
This time, the flight featured female Nebraska veterans.
Approximately 135 female Nebraska veterans boarded a plane at Eppley Airfield in Omaha before dawn to fly to Washington, D.C.
Perhaps the best-known fictional female soldier accompanied them.
Loretta Swit, who played nurse Maj. Margaret “Hot Lips”
Houlihan in the 1970s series “M*A*S*H,” is on the trip. Swit spoke to the veterans Sunday afternoon at a pre-flight dinner at the Embassy Suites LaVista.
This honor flight will visit the Marine Corps War Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, as well as the Tomb of the Unknowns. A group photo is scheduled for the Women in the Military Service for America monument.
