Two men died as the driver of a garbage truck lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll and crash into an on-coming dump truck in western Douglas County.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports the garbage truck was traveling north on 204th Street early Friday afternoon, approaching the intersection with Fort Street. The driver, 26-year-old Pierre Neal of Omaha, attempted to pass a pick-up and trailer turning right onto eastbound Fort Street.
The dump truck was turning left from westbound Fort Street into the southbound late of 204th Street. Neal over-corrected as he attempted to get back into his lane and lost control of the truck. It rolled onto its side and slid into the dump truck.
Both Neal and his passenger, 54-year-old Rogelio Sanchez Marin of Omaha, died at the scene. The dump truck driver, 55-year-old Darold Ashcraft of Omaha, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
