A Bellevue West High School sophomore was hospitalized on Monday after she was allegedly attacked in a hallway by another student. The 15 year old victim’s mother, Katie Wibbels says she received a call from her daughter after the assault.
Wibbels says, “After I viewed the video and saw her head being not only punched multiple times but up against a brick wall, I knew immediately that I needed to take her to a hospital She was showing signs of a concussion in the nurse’s office. She was taken to the emergency room in Bellevue. She was diagnosed with a concussion after a CAT scan. They were afraid she had some broken bones in her face from the punches. She does not have broken bones.”
Wibbels says her daughter has been harassed by the suspect and her sister since the start of the school year. She says several times the three girls had been called into the school office. The two sisters had been in that office the morning of the assault from an incident over the weekend involving social media.
Wibbels received a message from her daughter that that an assault on her was being planned and the girl also talked to school officials. Wibbels also contacted the school resource officer to inform him of the situation about 45 minutes prior to the attack.
Wibbels says, “They could of yanked her out of school. They could of put her in the office and asked her if the threats were true. They could have done a lot more than what they did. The principal profusely apologized to me for failing to protect my daughter.”
The suspect, a 15 year old girl, was ticketed by Bellevue Police for 3rd degree assault. Wibbels says there is no word from the school if or that discipline will be taken against the attacker.
