It is time for Nebraska parents with children who are high school seniors to apply to secure money for college or other types of higher education. Dr. Martha Bruckner is the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Omaha Education Consortium and says it is financial aid season and it is extremely important for parents to sit down and fill out that “Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA paperwork.
Dr. Bruckner says, “This is what you have to do to open some doors. Whether you are going to a community college, into some apprentice programs or a four-year college, it is going to be worth the 30 minutes that you spend filling it out. No matter how difficult you find it, it is really important you do it. It can open the doors to government money and scholarship dollars.”
Bruckner says those needing help with the paperwork should talk to their child’s school counselor. She says they know how to do it, where to do it and many have computers already set up to help them complete the work.
The application period started Monday and runs through June 30th.
