United States Sen. Deb Fischer says she will vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court.
Fischer had earlier indicated she would support Kavanaugh, but said she needed to review the FBI’s supplemental investigation spurred by allegations of sexual assault made against Kavanaugh.
Fischer released a statement this afternoon.
“From the beginning, I have supported Judge Kavanaugh because he is eminently qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. Today, I reviewed the FBI report and there continues to be no corroboration or evidence that he was involved in any misconduct. I look forward to voting for him later this week.”
Kavanaugh received the endorsement of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which voted along partisan lines. His nomination was forwarded to the full Senate for consideration with a caveat, that the FBI conduct a supplemental investigation into allegations leveled by Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of trying to rape her during a party when both were high school students.
Prior to reading the report, Fischer said, “It would have to be really something earth shattering I think in that report at this point in time and there is no indication of that, that we are hearing this morning.”
