The eyes of the nation are on Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district

October 4, 2018 By William Padmore

Democrat Kara Eastman

The race for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional district is turning heads across America for the surprisingly strong opposition Democratic candidate Kara Eastman is giving incumbent Congressman Don Bacon.

Political science professor Paul Landow with the University of Nebraska believes one reason for Eastman’s success is due to the momentum of the #Metoo movement…

“That’s not taking anything away from Eastman, says Landow, “she’s obviously well qualified.”

Congressman Don Bacon

“I’m just saying that in a typical year, the Republican, especially a Republican like Don Bacon, would have this race handled,” He says.

Landow says Eastmen also benefits from an anti- trump movement motivating Democrats nationally.

However,  Landow says races almost always come down to candidates and it remains to be seen whether residents of her traditionally conservative district can stomach her more progressive polices.
