The Creighton men’s soccer team is ranked 12th in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Poll, the organization announced on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The Bluejays went 1-1 last week with a 1-0 double overtime loss against then-No. 5 Denver and a 3-1 win at St. John’s on Saturday night. Creighton dropped four spots from last week’s top-10 ranking. The Bluejays are 8-2-1 overall, including 4-0-0 during BIG EAST play, which is good enough for sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Senior Sven Koenig continues to lead the BIG EAST and ranks 42nd nationally with six goals. Eight different Bluejays have scored at least one goal, and a total of four have multiple scores. Creighton also has 15 assists on 16 goals this season. Akeem Ward paces the squad with four helpers, while Younes Boudadi has three.
Freshman goalkeeper Paul Kruse ranks fifth nationally with a 0.439 goals against average through 11 matches as the Bluejays have allowed only five goals and own six shutouts.
Creighton is the lone BIG EAST school listed in this week’s top 25.
North Carolina took over as the new No. 1 in this week’s coaches poll, while Wake Forest, Denver, Indiana and Kentucky rounded out the top five.
The Bluejays were also ranked No. 11 in the latest official RPI released by the NCAA on Monday.
Creighton continues its season on Friday at Xavier. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Musketeers in Cincinnati, Ohio is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central. Creighton will stay on the road and play at Akron on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. Central.
