Husker coach Scott Frost says he has “no doubt” that former Husker players had contact with Oregon State officials about transferring earlier this year. Quarterback Tristan Gebbia, Linebacker Avery Roberts and receiver Tyjon Lindsey all left and transferred to Oregon State earlier this season. And just last week former running back Greg Bell asked for and received a release from his scholarship and plans to transfer.
Frost explained that the NCAA’s new transfer rules disproportionately benefit schools that are on the quarter system, rather than the semester system like Nebraska.
“Right now, with the way the transfer rule is, the quarter teams are at an advantage,” Frost said. “We couldn’t get a player to transfer here a week before the season started. Some of these quarter teams are still taking them [players].”
Frost also revealed in his post practice press conference on Thursday that Cam Jurgens has broken a bone in his foot and will be out for approximately one month. “He just got his cleat caught in the grass and broke a metatarsal in his foot,” Frost said.
Nebraska faces Northwestern Saturday morning at 11 am in Evanston, Illinois.
