Nebraska Republican U.S. Senator Ben Sasse tells CNN that the Saudis have a lot to answer for.
Senator Sasse says the U.S. needs to have a serious conversation over the disappearance and alleged slaying of the journalist. He disappeared two weeks ago on a visit to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
“The Saudis have a lot of explaining to do,” says Sasse, “this guy goes into the embassy, he doesn’t come out.” He notes if there were evidence of the journalist leaving the consulate, as Saudi authorities initially said there was, authorities would have seen it by now.
“Something terribly bad happened in there, and the Saudis know what it is and they need to explain it.”
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the disappearance and alleged slaying of the Saudi writer. Prince Mohammed said during the meeting on Tuesday: “We are strong and old allies.
