Omaha police have issued a correction, stating that the passenger in the fatal crash last week has not died, but remains in critical condition at CHI Bergan Mercy hospital.
An earlier news release issued by the Omaha Police Department stated 21-year-old Thomas Greise had died of injuries sustained in the wreck.
A correction has been issued, stating the health status of Greise had been inadvertently released.
Greise was a passenger in a car driven by 21-year-old Joseph Daniels of Council Bluffs, Iowa died at the scene. Greise, also from Council Bluffs, suffered life-threatening injuries.
Twenty-eight-year-old Tony Kenkel of Earling, Iowa has been charged with felony motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence – causing serious bodily injury. He is being held in the Douglas County jail on $100,000 bond.
According to Omaha police, Daniels was driving west on U.S. Highway 36 when an eastbound pick-up driven by Kenkel crossed into the westbound lane and ran head-on into Daniels’ car. The wreck occurred October 13th near the U.S. Highway 36 near Lake Cunningham.
