Tonight is the big one. Now, bigger still.
The jackpot for the Mega Millions lottery drawing is now the largest in the game’s history at $970-Million.
A new number has been released: the Mega Millions jackpot is estimated now at $1 billion.
Yes, that’s billion, with a “b” or, perhaps a “B.”
Spokesman Neil Watson with the Nebraska Lottery says if, against all odds, you do win, there are a few things you should do as soon as possible.
“If you do have that lucky jackpot-winning ticket, the first thing you should do is sign the back of it,” says Watson.
He says that’s because lottery tickets are considered “bearer items” meaning whoever is in possession of the ticket is considered the owner and winner should the ticket have the matching numbers.
However, “signing the back of ticket establishes you as the owner of the ticket,” according to Watson.
Watson says if you don’t win the $970-Million jackpot (which you probably won’t; odds currently exceed one in 300-million) you shouldn’t feel too bad; your ticket money will go toward a good cause.
“A portion of every ticket sold goes to support the environment, education, the Nebraska State Fair and Compulsive Gamblers Assistance.”
According to Watson, every county in the state has benefited from lottery proceeds in some way or another.
The drawing starts at 10PM
