A suspect has been arrested in a hit and run crash in southeastern Nebraska which claimed the lives of a 32-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl.
The Otoe County Attorney’s office has not released the identity of the suspect.
According to authorities, 39-year-old Michael Curry of Auburn was traveling south on U.S. 75 west of Nebraska City Sunday night when his pick-up crashed with a southbound sport utility vehicle.
A passenger in the pick-up, Rachel Curry, died at the scene. Michael Curry and 15-year-old Chloe Curry were taken to CHI Health St. Mary’s in Nebraska City. Chloe was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A news release from the county attorney’s office says Michael Curry survived the crash.
Deputies from the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office searched the area with a police dog from the driver of the SUV who fled the scene. A Nebraska State Patrol helicopter circled the area but could not locate the driver.
Later that evening, law enforcement officers found the suspect in Falls City, about 60 miles south of the crash site.
The suspect has received medical treatment and has been jailed in Otoe County.
Criminal charges could be filed.
Johnson County Central High School in Tecumseh had grief counselors on hand for students shocked by the death of Chloe Curry who would have turned 16 this week.
