The jackpot for the Mega Millions lottery drawing is now set at an estimated $1.6-Billion.
While the temptation may be huge, spokesman Neil Watson with the Nebraska lottery says there’s no need to buy a lot of tickets. Chances of winning are so astronomically small, buying a hundred tickets wouldn’t help your chances by even 1%.
“The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot is one in 302,000,000,” says Watson. “Those odds are going to be the same, no matter how many tickets are sold or how many people are playing.”
Watson says that’s important to remember as the Nebraska lottery reminds residents to play responsibly.
He notes $3,000,000 dollars in Mega-Millions tickets have been purchased by Nebraskans leading up to tonight’s drawing. That’s compared to only $900,000 for the previous drawing.
