Well, it didn’t end up to be $1.6 billion.
But, someone in South Carolina (or a group of people) bought a Mega Millions ticket which matched all the numbers in the Tuesday night drawing.
The payout: $1.537 billion.
As big as that is, it fell short of the record $1.586 Powerball jackpot won by three people in 2016.
Sales fell short of expectations, causing the jackpot to fall short of the $1.6 billion projection.
South Carolina lottery officials confirmed the ticket was sold at a convenience store in Simpsonville. South Carolina does not require lottery winners to go public. The winner can claim the annuity or the cash option of $877.8 million anonymously.
For the record, the winning numbers were 5, 28, 62, 65, 70 and Mega Ball 5.
