A Columbus veteran is on his way to recovery after getting help from a Jimmy John’s delivery driver Saturday night.
Lisa Nagengast had just returned to Florida after caring for her brother who had spinal fusion surgery last week. When she got off the plane there was a voice mail from her brother saying he was in a lot of pain and needed to go to a hospital. He couldn’t drive himself or call 911 because being a veteran he needed prior approval from the VA. Nagengast got the phone number of his social worker and made that call.
Jason Voss is the manager of Jimmy John’s in Columbus and says Nagengast was at the airport and likely was having a hard time hearing. He says, “I was pretty aware she didn’t realize she was talking to someone from Jimmy John’s.”
Voss says Nagengast told him the entire story thinking she was talking to the VA. Voss couldn’t leave and his delivery driver was gone.
Voss says, “I had to wait for him to come back from a delivery but as soon as he did I talked to him about it. I left the number up on the screen and called Lisa back, got the address and he was on his was right on his way. He was here and gone in about five minutes and right out the door.
That driver, Zach Hillmer is also a veteran picked up Nagengast’s brother and got him to a hospital nine miles away. Nagengast told her story on Facebook and it is going viral. She also adds that her brother is doing well and is back home thanks to the help of Hillmer and Voss.
