A northeast Nebraska rancher has made a surprising discovery.
Brian Petska found two bull elk, antlers locked, dead in a Garfield County pond.
It’s rutting season and the two apparently began to fight, landing in the water, drowning.
Petska found the bulls on land owned by his brother, where he runs cattle. Petska’s daughter tells the Omaha World-Herald the bodies had not decomposed; both were big and healthy.
The bulls have been pulled from the water. They have been taken to Harmon’s Taxidermy in Bassett to be mounted.
