Nebraska Game and Parks Commission officials confirmed the male mountain lion, weighing 55 pounds, was killed Monday evening in the northwestern Nebraska community.
Game and Parks says the kill followed state policy for shooting mountain lions when they wandered into city limits.
Game and Parks commissioners earlier this year approved a mountain lion hunting season with a goal of lowering mountain lion densities. Game and Parks says commissioners acted in response to public concerns about cougars as well as research. The mountain lion hunting season will run for the first two months of next year.
