American Legion Post One in Omaha is holding a Veteran’s Day program this Sunday at 11 a.m. Organizer Fred Tisdale says they are adding an element to the program to remember an important day in history.
Tisdale says, “It is the 100th anniversary of the armistice ending WWI. Everyone across the nation and maybe the world have been asked to ring bells 21 times at 11 o’clock on November 11th.” That is how the program in Omaha will start.
The program was originally to be held at Memorial Park but due to cold weather it will be held at Post One at 78th and Davenport Street.
Tisdale says this is a celebration for all Nebraska veterans and guest speakers include Governor Pete Ricketts, Congressman Don Bacon and a representative from Senator Deb Fischer’s office. Patriotic Production’s Evonne Williams will also speak on the Women’s Honor Flight to Washington D.C. last September. A Nebraska WWII Marine who was at Iwo Jima in 1945 will also attend.
