Nebraskans are urged to join the U.S. Marine Corps in their annual Toys for Tots campaign. Omaha Police and Fire Departments are joining forces with the Marines this year. Police spokesperson Kelsey Murphy says their goal is to make sure no child is left behind come Christmas morning.
Murphy says, “We are asking for new, unwrapped toys. You can donate through December 1st. Young to teenager. We are asking for any sort of toys for that age group but again we are asking they are new and unwrapped.”
Collection boxes are set up at four Omaha Police precincts and at eleven Omaha Fire Department stations throughout town. Murphy says they are teaming with fourteen non-profit agencies that are signed up through the Marine Corps right now. She says, “Each of those non-profits take requests from families. They reach out to the Marine Corps and they will do everything they can to make sure that those requests are fulfilled.”
Many other communities in Nebraska participate in the annual collection event.
