A middle school teacher in Omaha has been sentenced to a year or two in prison after being accused of having sexual relations with a 13-year-old student.
Twenty-six-year-old Amy Nowaczyk, a teacher at Morton Middle School, pleaded guilty to charges of attempted sexual assault of a child and enticement by electronic device. She had been charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child, which carried a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Douglas County District Judge Marlon Polk sentenced Nowaczyk to one to two years in prison.
Police arrested Nowaczyk this spring after the teen-age boy told investigators the two has sexual contact several times inside the classroom over an eight-month period. Prosecutors say the two also exchanged electronic messages, including through the Omaha Public Schools email system.
