Thanksgiving request from Omaha’s Open Door Mission

November 16, 2018 By Karla James

Nebraskans will sit down next Thursday to give thanks and enjoy a feast.   Thanks to the Open Door Mission in Omaha, many low income residents will be given that same opportunity.  They are currently putting together 3,000 Turkey “N” Fixin’s food boxes that includes a ham or turkey and all the extras for a Thanksgiving dinner.  Community Relations Director Amy Harvey says in order to complete their mission they need donations.

Harvey says, “We need about 600 turkeys or hams. We’ve given out a little over 2,300 now and we are looking for that final push these last couple of days to help families in the community so they can have Thanksgiving in their own home with their own family and not have to choose between providing that meal or paying rent, a bill or gas in the car.”

It is short notice but the donations are needed by this Saturday. Those wanting to help can drop off turkeys and hams at one of the Mission’s Outreach Centers or can make a monetary donation at opendoormission.org.
