Gov. Pete Ricketts is seeking applications for two pending legislative vacancies.
State Senators John Murante and Dan Watermeier won their elections for higher office and will be resigning from their seats with two years remaining in each.
Ricketts says those interested can apply with his office.
“We said that we have the application period open until December 7th. So, if somebody does have an interest in either District One or District 49, they should get their application in to the governor’s office by December 7th,” Ricketts says.
District One Sen. Dan Watermeier of Syracuse was elected to the Public Service Commission. District 49 Sen. John Murante of Gretna won election as state Treasurer. Both must submit their resignations from the Unicameral before assuming their new offices at the start of the New Year.
Legislative District 1 includes Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, Richardson, and portions of Otoe County. Click here for a district map.
Legislative District 49’s boundaries lie within Sarpy County. Click here for a district map.
Applicants must be at least 21 and have lived in the district for at least a year. They also must be registered voters. Appointees will serve until January 2021. The deadline to apply is 4pm on Friday, December 7th.
Interested individuals may complete an application online at the governor’s website. It is the same application as Application for Executive Appointment, which can be accessed by clicking here.
Applicants may also include a cover letter, resume, and any additional background materials, which can be attached at the end of the online application.
Questions about the application process can be directed to Kathleen Dolezal with the Governor’s Office at 402-471-2256 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Gov. Ricketts reserves the right to seek out additional qualified candidates.
