Motorists are being encouraged to keep up with the weather and adjust traveling plans accordingly.
The National Weather Service in North Platte says northwest winds with gusts up to 30 miles per hour and stronger will sweep into the Panhandle and southwestern Nebraska this afternoon. Some wind gust might hit 45 mph.
Winter weather is expected to move in in earnest later Saturday through Sunday morning. NWS forecasts two to four inches of snow for western and north-central Nebraska during the period. Falling and blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility for drivers Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
NWS says the snow could get deeper as the storm moves eastward. Snow accumulations for eastern Nebraska, including Omaha and Lincoln, could range from three to eight inches. Wind gusts Saturday evening into Sunday morning are expected to be as high as 35 mph.
NWS says travelers should plan on slippery road conditions with blowing snow reducing visibility, sometimes significantly.
