Cockfight broken up in southeast Nebraska; 32 arrested, nearly 200 roosters rescued

November 26, 2018 By Brent Martin

An anonymous tip given to the Nebraska Humane Society led to the break up of a huge cockfighting operation in southeastern Nebraska.

Authorities with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 and confiscated nearly 200 roosters at a farm near Louisville.

The suspects range in age from 20 to 67 and have been jailed in Cass County. They face numerous charges, including participating, viewing, or promoting cockfighting. Two juveniles detained during the raid have been released to the custody of their parents.

When officers arrived, the crowd gathered at the farm scattered. Authorities say some got away.

Cass County authorities and the Nebraska Humane Society report seizing 186 live roosters. Eleven roosters were dead. One had to be euthanized.
